The late Japanese manga artist Takao Saito is best known for his work on Golgo 13, a manga series serialized in Big Comic since 1968 and recognized by Guinness World Records for "Most volumes published for a single manga series." Saito rejected the label of manga artist and instead identified as a gekiga artist, as his work for adult audiences was marked by mature themes and a more cinematic art style. Saito's career spanned 66 years, during which he won several awards and received recognition from the Japanese government for his contributions to the arts. Golgo 13 follows the professional assassin of the same name, whose true identity remains unknown and whose jobs are completed using a customized M16 rifle. The name "Golgo 13" is a reference to the death of Jesus Christ.
